AT THEIR BEST IN JANUARY

January usually brings excellent weather to western India; especially to the intriguing enclave of Goa and to the magnificent palm-lined beaches of the Malabar Coast.  These areas, along with much of Southeast Asia, are enjoying the benefits of the dry Northeast Monsoon.

The weather is also excellent in those portions of the southern hemisphere that have a Mediterranean-type climate or a tropical desert climate:  much of western South America, the tip of South Africa, and southern Australia.

Finally, those islands and coasts within the wet-and-dry tropics that are having their dry seasons at this time of year are also at or near their best.  Some of these places will have just a touch nicer weather in December or February, and may be featured in those months.

As a rule of thumb, you can usually assume that if a place is at its best in a particular month, then the months on either side of the featured month will have pretty good weather too.
